Title: Storytelling
Venue: Comenius Centre, Wolfreton Upper School
Time: 4.30pm
Speaker: Dorolyn Parker

In response to requests from both cluster coordinators and teachers during the recent CPD sessions, the focus of RSG1 was storytelling. The speaker, Dorolyn Parker, who works for Hull Local Authority, is a language specialist and a very experienced KS1 teacher. This was a very informal sesion due to the small number of attendees. Dorolyn led the group through a PowerPoint presentation examining why stories are an excellent means to teach languages and how to select appropriate books for use with different age groups. The workshop was very practical with teachers taking on the roles of characters within a story, singing songs and playing games. All attendees thoroughly enjoyed the RSG and commented on how many ideas they were able to take back to school and put into practice. Dorolyn also brought with her a selection of stories in different languages so that teachers were able to browse for resources they felt would be useful.
