| NACELL Regional
Support Groups aim to promote and develop language learning in the
primary sector through local level support. |
 |
The groups run free
information, training and networking sessions for anyone involved or interested
in teaching languages in Nursery, Foundation, Key Stage 1 and 2. Sessions
offer a national and regional information update, a presentation by a
trainer or practising teacher and opportunities to share ideas and resources
with fellow participants.

map or one of the links on the right to find your nearest Regional Support
Group.
The groups aim to
build capacity in primary schools across their regions by:
• disseminating information to encourage teachers and teacher trainees
to attend sessions
• facilitating contact between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)
and partnership schools to help meet the needs of HEIs in the region
• co-ordinating existing regional resources, e.g. raising awareness
of language-learning opportunities provided by Specialist Language Colleges
(SLCs), Further Education, local clubs, etc
• matching Advanced Skills Teachers' (ASTs) support to local needs
• helping Local Authorities (LAs) to meet training needs
The groups also manage NACELL Regional Consultative Groups which bring
together regional stakeholders in early language learning from all sectors.
Membership is open to a wide range of interested parties and representatives
may include language coordinators from primary schools, LA Advisers, ATs
and ASTs, primary links coordinators from SLCs or secondary MFL departments,
initial teacher training (ITT) trainers and members of NALA and ALL.
NACELL
Regional Support Groups are supported by Comenius Centres in each of the
nine government regions. Comenius centres are co-ordinated by CILT and
aim to support teachers of languages in all sectors of education. For
further information, see the CILT
website.
