Title: Getting started and having fun with Languages
Speaker: Chris Greene and Shelia O'Grady

77 attendees at a hugely successful RSG started off the language learning year in just the right way. Chris Green and Shelia O'Grady from Liverpool LA took us all through our paces in Spanish songs and rhymes (for KS1)and how to present traditional rhyme such as "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly." Chris Green challenged even those of us who are competent in the target language with IWB and PowerPoint games combining maths, literacy and language learning at KS2 in French. The invited publishers complemented the event with games, books and activities that encourage teachers to keep the fun in language learning but also to look to progression.
Warrington LA offered each attendee a free CD with bonfire rhymes and activities in French, German and Spanish.

Miriam McKay gave a lively talk on the 500 Teacher Exchange to Munich. Vicky Jones, Y5 teacher/languages coordinator at Grappenhall Heys Primary School, explained how she weaves aspects of culture from Denmark (her native country) into everyday classroom routine and celebrations.Vicky showed gifts the children have received from their link school in Germany and she shared her plans and activities to support the whole school's German Christmas festival.
