Regular sessions are held at different venues around St. Helens. Date: 04/10/2007 A well attended session, with Deb Winnard (AST) taking the lead in talking about flashcard activities and games for Primary classrooms. There was also an interesting presentation of a recent teacher exchange visit to a school in France from Heather Bailey, teacher at Wargrave Primary School. Date: 22/11/2007 Carol Nicoll (The Language Factory) came down from Scotland to give an interactive presentation / performance of original songs and raps designed for use in the primary MFL classroom. The songs were accompanied by Interactive Whiteboard presentations showing words, actions and also classes both in the UK and overseas taking part in the activities. All participants were singing, most were dancing and a great time was had by all. Date: 24/01/2008 Trish Smith, Caroline Murphy and Deb Winnard updated the group on current and proposed MFL initiatives and discussion centered around the moves towards full primary MFL entitlement in 2010, with suggestions for primary resources also distributed. There were reminders given about the forthcoming CILT Primary Languages Show and a provisional date of 20 May was mentioned for the next Primary Languages Conference. The meeting was also delighted to welcome Ana Lavado Garcia, a Foreign Language Assistant who gave a very interesting and informative presentation about using language games and riddles in primary MFL lessons. Date: 10/04/2008 Contributions at the meeting were from Jayne Aylward, who gave a presentation of songs, rhymes and Brain Gym, Sue Ashton, who talked about her experiences in using MFL in primary school assemblies and Dave Griffiths, who shared information about the Medway LA approach to progression in primary languages. Trish Smith also reminded the meeting about the conference on 20 May and various other items which came from the recent CILT Primary Languages Show in Manchester. Date: 12/06/2008 A very successful session, but unfortunately the lowest attended RSG session of the year. The performances included French folk dancing, German folk dancing, which involved a group of year 7 pupils who had been practicing for weeks and Flamenco moves which could be easily adapted for the primary MFL classroom. The session was filmed and may be repeated in future.
