in the West, South and South East of Nottinghamshire. Date: 02/10/07 A small but enthusiastic group of teachers met for the first RSG session of the new school year at Radcliffe on Trent Junior School where we were made very welcome by school staff. Our speaker, Wendy Adeniji, enthralled the teachers with an excellent presentation of how to bring languages alive through the use of interactive whiteboard activities. Wendy exemplified for us some inventive PowerPoint and IWB techniques which could be easily incorporated into primary languages lessons and her ideas were inspiring and interesting. This session will be repeated in Worksop in the new year so if you missed it this time, don't miss out next time! Additionally Alyson gave an update of current developments in primary languages including CPD opportunities and the teachers were able to network and share experiences of the European Day of Languages. The lucky raffle prize winner walked off with the Young Pathfinder "We Have the Technology" which everyone agreed was a most appropriate prize! Date: 22/11/2007 Around 20 teachers from all over the north of Nottinghamshire were enthralled by Ann Tunley's excellent presentation on how to teach PSHE and Science activities through French. Our teachers were delighted to be able to have some hands on practice and there was much lively discussion and networking. We were also pleased to welcome Carolyn Cattley from La Jolie Ronde who showed participants some of the Christmas materials available from La Jolie Ronde. The pack "Joyeux Noel" was offered as our regular raffle prize and one lucky teacher went home with this activity pack. Our thanks to Helen Abbott from St Augustine's Junior School who hosted and facilitated the event and who gave an update on latest news from NACELL and CILT whilst our presenters were stuck in traffic on the M1! Date: 19/02/2008 Unfortunately this session had to be cancelled because of illness. However we are hoping to reschedule it before the end of the school year or early next term. Date: 04/03/2008 Staff from schools in and around Nottingham City called upon their musical talents to take part in Alyson's entertaining session on Spanish songs and rhymes for the primary languages classroom. The session began with a discussion about the value of songs and rhymes and participants shared examples they had used in the classroom. Alyson also brought along some resources of songs and rhymes including publications produced by the Consejeria de Educacion. All the participants were given useful handouts with not only the text of songs and rhymes but details of websites which provide words and sound files to some popular Spanish songs. The teachers were also given an update on the latest news from CILT with reference to the NACELL website. Date: 16/04/2008 A very enthusiastic group of teachers from the Worksop area and further afield were enthralled by Wendy Adeniji's excellent presentation. Wendy exploited the creative use of PowerPoint, SMART board and Activ Primary to help make primary languages fun and stimulating and she explained exactly how she produced the slides and special effects. Teachers were not only impressed by the potential in languages lessons but realised that these skills could be transferred to all areas of the curriculum. Wendy had produced a handout for each participant with details of websites which could help them produce some exciting resources. Date: 12/06/2008 This was a very useful session in a new location in Retford. The school was very welcoming and the room we used was fantastic. Thanks to Carr Hill and Vanessa Smith for hosting us. We will be back! There were some new faces at the session but we were pleased to welcome back some stalwarts! Alyson's presentation highlighted the support available from CILT for organising a special langauges day, with particular reference to the European Day of Languages. She also illustrated how other schools in Nottinghamshire have celebrated the world of languages and participants were able to share their own experiences. Alyson referred to the many websites which explore this interesting topic and highlighted in particular the Newbury Park School website This school celebrates the many languages spoken in school and the presentation by the children of their own languages is stunning. Everyone received EDL pens, posters and stickers to take away.
