Title: QCA Units 1 (All about me) and 2 (Games and songs)
Venue: Comenius Centre, Wolfreton Upper School
Time: 4.30 pm
Speaker: Heidi Gallagher

This RSG session focused on QCA Units 1 and 2. The speaker, Heidi Gallagher, demonstrated how to teach each of the sections within Units 1 and 2 using SMARTboard resources which were specifically made to support teachers in the teaching of the QCA SoW. These SMARTboard resources were then made available to all of the attendees at the end of the session. As there were a large number of ITT students attending from Hull University, Heidi also incorporated teaching methodolgy into the sessions to ensure it was appropriate for those just starting to teach primary languages. In addition, Heidi demonstrated a range of commercially produced resources, showing how and where existing resources in schools could be incorporated into the QCA units. The sessions were very well received by those who attended and the resources have been greatly appreciated.

Title: QCA Unit 3 (Celebrations) and Unit 4 (Portraits)
Venue: Comenius Centre, Wolfreton Upper School
Time: 4.30 pm
Speaker: Heidi Gallagher

This session focused on QCA Units 3 (Celebrations) and 4 (Portraits). The speaker, Heidi Gallagher, demonstrated a range of Smartboard resources which had been specifically made to support teachers in the teaching of the new QCA SoW. She also explored a selection of commercially produced resources and showed how existing materials in many primary schools could be used to resource the QCA units. Technical difficulties meant that some of the interactive resources such as DVD clips couldn't be demonstrated, but many of the teachers joined in discussion about which resources they had found to be effective in the classroom and ideas were shared amongst colleagues and ITT students. The Smartboard resources were made available to all attendees at the end of the session or offered via email. Feedback from those who attended the RSG session has been very positive and teachers have been extremely grateful for the high quality resources.

Title: QCA Unit 5 (The four friends) and Unit 6 (Growing things)
Venue: Minster Primary School, Beverley
Time: 4.30 pm
Speaker: Heidi Gallagher

This session focused on QCA Unit 5 (The Four Friends) and Unit 6 (Growing things).

During the first part of the session, attendees worked in groups on a specific section of Unit 5. Each group was given one section of the unit, with both the learning objectives and learning outcomes deleted. Teachers were also given an overview of Y3 and Y4 from the KS2 Framework, together with a selection of resources which they might use. The speaker, Heidi Gallagher, then asked the groups to identify which learning objectives they thought would be covered within their section. The groups then reconvened to discuss both their findings as well as any other issues which arose.

In the second part of the session, Heidi demonstrated a range of teaching and learning activities from Unit 6, showing how this unit fits well into the primary curriculum with its cross-curricular approach. Heidi also showed an array of interactive whiteboard resources made specifically for this unit and how these could be accessed.

Title: QCA Unit 7 (All aboard) and Unit 8 (Pocket money)
Venue: Eastrington Primary School
Time: 4.30 pm
Speaker: Heidi Gallagher

This session took place at Eastrington Primary School and focused on QCA Units 7 (All Aboard) and 8 (Pocket Money). The speaker, Heidi Gallagher, demonstrated a range of teaching and learning activities taken from the possible teaching activities within these two units. There was a lot of discussion centred around the "Points to note" information and valuable advice was given by both the speaker and some of the attendees on the subject of which francophone countries to select (Unit 7, section 2) as well as finding relevant resources on the Oxfam website. As in previous sessions, Heidi demonstrated a range of smartboard resources which she had made specifically for these two QCA units. The resources, as always, were very well received by teachers who were keen to access them for use within their classrooms.

Title: QCA Unit 9 (Tell me a story) and Unit 10 (Our sporting lives)
Venue: Woldgate School, Pocklington
Time: 4.30 pm
Speaker: Heidi Gallagher

This RSG took place at Woldgate School, Pocklington and focused on QCA Unit 9 (Raconte-moi une histoire) and Unit 10 (Vive le sport!). The speaker, Heidi Gallagher (AST for Primary Languages and Comenius KS2 Consultant), demonstrated a range of teaching and learning activities taken from the possible teaching activities within these two units. As in previous sessions, Heidi demonstrated a range of smartboard resources which she had made specifically for these two QCA units. The session and accompanying resources, as always, were very well received and all those who attended were given a copy of the smartboard resources for use in their own school.
