Regular sessions are held in and around Cheshire and the Peaks. Date: 01/11/2007 1. Benefits of International School Application and Status Date: 27/11/2007 The gentle rustle of the cellophane as the clear wrapper gently slid off the Stollen. That sudden waft of marzipan tickled the senses, the rich spices of the warm mince pies and the gentle aroma of the Amaretti biscuits – all of these were the tell tale signs that the Cheshire and The Peaks Christmas RSG was once again in session. Mary Henshaw, Liz Healey and Sheila Holley from Tytherington HS were the first resident Santas to present. They gave a great talk about German Christmas traditions and taught the teacher elves present some German Carols to take back to school. They brought a super PowerPoint about the Christmas Story (in German) which would be instantly usable in any language in any classroom. Claire Hammond was the next Santa, sharing age old traditions about making snowmen and snowmen books in French. The last Santa - and the nearest to the real thing - was Nick Warren who spoke of the traditions of Christmas and Epiphany in France. Teacher elves took a PowerPoint away on CD that hopefully could be and indeed will be used in classrooms throughout the region. About 30 teacher elves attended and went away with lots of MFL ideas and very full tummies. Happy Christmas all. Date: 06/03/2008 Quatre, cinq et.....The little girl in the film struggled for "six" as all the classmates around her tried to help. Jojo knew the answer. "Etre et avoir", the wonderful film about life in a school in the Auvergne, was the first of ten ways to make the Framework work that was enjoyed by members of the Cheshire and The Peaks RSG. All the teachers were mouthing the answers and smiling as the film clip played. Sentence parcels followed by La maison que Jacques a bâtie (L5-2 and O4-2) were enjoyed by all. Then Intercultural understanding, with a journey from home to Paris and how to make an ICT multimedia presentation were given the thumbs up for good ideas. The blood was made to flow more quickly with parachute activities in German and finger rhymes in Spanish. Some songs and a newspaper challenge in German brought an end to a very positive session. Everyone who attended went away with a bucket of ideas for their classrooms. Date: 13/03/2008 Report as above Date: 22/05/2008 Mary Henshaw and Nick Warren spoke to a packed room at Oldfield Primary School in Chester. Talks were about the Languages Ladder with practical examples of assessment. The principles behind Asset Languages were discussed and information was given on how to access this system if wanted. Attendees were also given a clearer understanding of what KS3 teachers are thinking and how assessment is different in High Schools. The session finished looking at The European Languages portfolio and some ideas for transition. Date: 05/06/2008 Adele ran a very interesting session giving participants the opportunity to try at first hand the use of mini digi cameras for assessment purposes in the classroom. Paricipants were able to experiment with the cameras to see what the possibilities of the technology are.
