Groups.

is 9 activities with 3 countries – challenging. St. Laurence achieved
it and Sutton Veny and Greentrees. Some schools have achieved intermediate
and foundation stage.
- British
Council 500 schools project – 4 LAs invited to the briefing. DfES
funded a pilot in France, Spain, Germany and Italy. Non-native speakers
spend a week in a training college to improve language and then follow
with a week in school in February to teach. Applications by 1 December.
Outstanding opportunity for individuals and schools. Two pilots in March
and October 2006 but unsure about funding into the future.

and Avon Valley College, Stonehenge went to Seville, Andalucia, on 5
November. Met the authority – bilingual education – teach
foundation subjects in English. Met with
schools’ headteachers and deputy headteachers, outlined school
development plans and visited schools. E-mail individuals and teacher
exchange over next 12 months.

RCG2:
Monday 23 January 2007
Venue: Committee Room III, County Hall Trowbridge
Time: 8.30am
- Andalucia Link
- Wiltshire has been offered the opportunity for another group of teachers
to visit Seville. They are going at half term. The return trip for the
Andalucia heads who received Wiltshire teachers
in November will be in March.
- Review of Funding
System - Cluster model for funding will be adopted for next year. Some
secondary schools feel they should now be paid for their support, particularly
if they are not a language college. This is a decision for the primary
clusters. If they feel the support is what they want they may spend
their money on it if they wish.
- There is a need
to raise awareness of the KS2 Framework among secondary teachers so
they know what is being taught. In September 2007 primary children will
be entering secondary school after two or three years of learning a
foreign language – often French. Secondary schools need to build
on this, not start from scratch. They must also be prepared to
differentiate their language learning as not all children will have
learned a language. It was noted that a Bristol Primary Conference is
focussing on Transition.
- International School
Award - Four schools in Wiltshire have the full award and seven are
working towards it. A substantial number of schools are applying.
- ELL Conference
– 12 June 2007 - The keynote speaker will be Carmen O’Hagan,
CILT. Ann Gregory and Penny Krucker will do workshops and there
will be exhibitions of publishers and opportunities for networking.
The workshops in the afternoon are being finalised.
- RSG
meetings - It was suggested that sessions could be duplicated in different
places around the county to encourage more people to attend. We will
attempt to do this in future.
RCG 3: Tuesday 22 May 2007
Venue: County Hall Trowbridge
Time: 8.30am
