CILT projects and reports
CILT is involved in a number of innovative national and international projects to support language teaching and learning. Current and completed projects relating to the primary sector are outlined in the tables below. Links to published reports and project documentation are provided.

CILT Survey of Primary MFL (PMFL) strategies in Pathfinder Local Authorities and other Local Authorities |

| Description |
As a step towards the primary language learning entitlement, 19 Key Stage 2 Language Pathfinders were established by the DfES to see how best primary language learning could be delivered, they ran from autumn 2003 until summer 2005. CILT conducted a survey of the 19 DfES Pathfinder Local Authorities, along with 12 Local Authorities identified by Lid King, the National Director for Languages. TRAFIC (Transnational Framework for In-service Courses) |

| Description |
CILT coordinated the TRAFIC project with European Union funding to promote courses for primary languages teachers within the Comenius framework. A network of providers was established, working with partner institutions including CIEP in Paris, Bell Centres and the Goethe Institute. For more details visit the TRAFIC website |

| Description |
The Early Language Learning initiative was managed by CILT on behalf of the DfEE/DfES. Its aim was to support and develop foreign language learning in the primary sector, providing a basis for future developments.The initiative was delivered in two phases: April 1999 to March 2001 and April 2001 to March 2004. | Description |
The Good Practice Project ran from September 1999 until March 2001 as part of the CILT- managed DfEE Early Language Learning initiative to develop and encourage early language learning in England and Wales. Eighteen Projects from England and Wales were involved in investigating the key issues surrounding early language learning and reported back to CILT on their findings. Published July 2004
Information pack for state-sector primary schools in England, produced in July 2004 by CILT working with the DfES.
