‘Ideas for the classroom’ brings together a bank of bite-size articles focusing on different aspects of teaching languages in the primary context. In the Getting Started section you will find plenty of useful tips to help you implement a variety of techniques and carry out activities in the classroom, for example Storytelling or Using Songs and Rhymes. For features which look in detail an aspect of primary practice from a primary languages perspective, have a look at the Focus on... section. We will be updating both sections regularly, so do keep visiting!

How will you celebrate the next European Day of Languages?
The European Day of Languages, held annually on 26 September, is now established across the continent as an opportunity to celebrate language learning and the diversity and enrichment that languages bring to our lives.

1-2-3-Los! Linking languages with PE
One of the many benefits of teaching languages at primary school is the huge potential for language work in other areas of the primary curriculum, and teachers across the country are already tapping into this. PE can be one of the simplest and most effective ways of doing this - as well as being hugely enjoyable.

Working with the Primary Languages Website
The Primary Languages Website is a fantastic resource bank of activities, but that is not by any means its most significant raison d’être. As an online tool kit for teachers, it provides comprehensive access to a range of professional development (CPD) materials.

Interactive whiteboard
