Pupils in two Richmond upon Thames schools, Archdeacon Cambridge's Church of England and Trafalgar Junior were lucky enough to participate in workshops with a French children's book illustrator, Alexis.

In this project, organized by the 'Service Culturel' of the French Embassy in London, Year 6 pupils collaborated on fantastic stories, full of monsters and strange creatures. As the children read out episodes of their stories to Alexis, he illustrated them on the spot.

The pupils enjoyed hearing the French translations and explanations ably provided by Mireille Dechelette from the Embassy, especially the plays on words. They had the opportunity to put Alexis in the "hot seat" and interview him in French. They also, of course, had the wonderful experience of seeing a talented professional artist at work.

The bilingual story from Trafalgar Junior will be going on the French Embassy web site.
