A small group of ten intrepid Year 4 pupils, accompanied by their classteacher, Julie Apps, and Hounslow's advisory teacher for MFL, Alison Edwards, set off after lunch on a cold winter's afternoon to take a coach into central London. We had a very important date - we had been selected to perform our special song for some very important people in the Foreign Office. It was the day of the launch of a new website for contacts between young people in the UK and in Germany.

We eventually arrived in King Charles Street and, after numerous speeches, the button was finally pressed to launch the website (some of the pupils had been expecting champagne!), a demonstration of the site was given and then it was the big moment. Year 4 sang their hearts out as they performed 'das Minimonster' by Detlev Jöcker. Everyone was very impressed - the applause lasted several minutes and many people came to congratulate the children on their performance, on their linguistic ability, and also on their behaviour.

Baroness Helena Kennedy summed up the proceedings and emphasised the fact that it is not very often that they have children in the Foreign Office. If Grove Park Primary School's success is anything to go by, then perhaps that will all change!

Hearty congratulations to the pupils, to Julie Apps and to Tanya Gell, Headteacher, for making it all possible. Many thanks also to Hans-Joachim Fuhrig of the Goethe Institut who facilitated the visit for us.
