Schemes of work and lesson plans

September 2007 update: The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) has produced a new key stage 2 scheme of work for languages (French, German and Spanish). The scheme suggests a way of enabling learners to meet the objectives of the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages (DfES, 2005). The scheme and the teacher's guide are available to download from the QCA website and copies can be ordered from QCA Orderline.

The scheme of work is designed as a framework to help schools develop and amend their own schemes. In this section, you will find schemes of work and lesson plans which teachers have used for German, Spanish and French. All of the examples of schemes of work shown in the NACELL best practice guide are based on the previous QCA Key Stage 2 scheme of work, published in 2000. Teachers have adapted the QCA scheme of work to fit their particular timetables and schools.

CILT is very grateful to the following teachers who have generously agreed to share their work:

  • Vikki Schulze, The Downs School, Walmer, Kent
  • Primary MFL Advisory Teachers, Liverpool Education and Lifelong Learning Service
  • Jo Cole, Rosanna Raimato, Mary Rose, The International Learning and Research Centre, and teachers in South Gloucestershire who contributed to a centre-based QCA research project (2002)
  • Rosemary Bevis, Marple Hall School, Stockport
  • Therese Comfort, Headlands School and Anita Amesbury, Wigginton School, York
