ICT
The National
Languages Strategy places a significant emphasis on the role to be
played by ICT and e-learning in the improvement of teaching and learning.
It highlights the possibilities of using ICT to:
- increase exposure
to native speakers;
- provide opportunities
to engage pupils;
- give access to
resources on the Internet;
- enable remote
teaching and learning;
- allow opportunities
for language practice and social activity through on-line discussion;
- increase community
cohesion and educational inclusion.
Schools might investigate:
- interactive whiteboards;
- materials available
on the Internet;
- CD-ROMs;
- uses of software
such as PowerPoint;
- Web-based resources;
- digital cameras
and video cameras;
- videoconferencing.
Links to on-line
resources for early language learning can be found at:
www.nacell.org.uk/resources/online_resources.htm.
| By using
the Internet, teachers can have access to a range of resources including
websites, newspapers, radio and TV. Schools can communicate quickly
and easily with each other through e-mail and videoconferencing.
Teachers can access different multimedia material, including on-line
content and CD ROMs.

e-pals
The National Languages
Strategy should enable more pupils to become involved in 'e-pal' links,
building on the British Council 'Windows
on the World' scheme.
Teachers wishing
to find e-mail partners can consult: www.nacell.org.uk/networking/email_partners.htm.
